In Honeysuckle we are first introduced to Rory, a young boy whose older sister has outgrown any desire to play with him, and in order to be free of him, she weaves him a girl of flowers and words, who will always want to play with him and make him happy no matter what: Daye.

Rory couldn’t be happier, but only until he realizes that Daye, much like the flowers she has been built from, withers and dies at the end of each season - thus she must be remade with new flowers each season, or wither gruesomely. For Rory, this is the start of an obsession to keep Daye alive as the two grow up, but this is not the only change in their relationship. Rory has fallen in love with Daye, and is convinced that she loves him too.

But with time Daya starts to wonder whether she even has a choice and if she is actually the one in control over her own body, as well as her very thoughts and feelings.
